MGM Resorts resumed operations after a 10-day shutdown due to a cyberattack, however, the ransomware group, ALPHV, managed to gain access to its system through social engineering tactics. Gregory Moody, the director of the cybersecurity program at the University of Nevada, estimated that MGM could have lost up to $8 million per day during the shutdown, equivalent to an overall loss of around $80 million. It’s the latest in a series of attacks targeting casino chains across the country.
