LockBit behind 1 in 6 U.S. gov’t ransomware attacks in 2022

In 2022, one out of six ransomware attacks on U.S. government offices was traced back to the LockBit gang, which is suspected to have Russian links. The group is believed to be behind the most deployed ransomware variant worldwide in 2022. The U.S., Australia, Canada, UK, Germany, France, and New Zealand noted the high frequency of LockBit attacks in their countries. LockBit, which often exploits known vulnerabilities to gain access, has reportedly raked in $91 million in ransom from U.S. victims since January 2020.
