Walgreens plans to electronically deliver patient data to primary care providers using e-prescribing network Surescripts’ Clinical Interoperability services. This will improve the coordination of care and allow providers to compile more complete medical histories for their patients. In addition, Walgreens will use the Surescripts network to send immunization records to primary care providers and public health agencies later this year. The Surescripts network supports federal and state health information exchange policies and standards. This move towards clinical interoperability is part of efforts to improve continuity of care and support the meaningful use of electronic health records.
