How Google Authenticator Made One Company’s Network Breach Much, Much Worse

A security flaw in Google’s authenticator app was blamed by cybersecurity company, Retool, for exacerbating a recent hack of its network. The breach, which stemmed from a phishing text sent to a company employee, gained the scammers access to 27 customer accounts in the cryptocurrency sector. A sync feature, introduced to Google’s authenticator in April, meant the hackers could then compromise several other company accounts.
