Lucy Letby’s hospital chairman headed NHS during ‘Angel of Death’ Beverley Allitt murders

Sir Duncan Nichol, who was the head of NHS England during Beverley Allitt’s murders in 1991, was also the chairman of the hospital where Lucy Letby committed similar crimes. The coincidence of Nichol’s positions during both cases has raised concerns about NHS leadership. Despite concerns raised by doctors about Letby’s conduct in 2015, baby deaths on the unit were not attributed to criminal activity. Critics compare this possible oversight to Nichol’s involvement in reviewing the Allitt case.
