Norfolk-based Sentara Healthcare and Old Dominion University are collaborating to test the use of blockchain to protect personal health data in the cloud. The project involves using decentralised and permissioned blockchain to protect privacy and improve identity management, with data from wearable and medical devices synced to the cloud. The goal is to enable tracking and reporting of any unauthorised access or modifications to data. Sentara is also hoping to conduct another project using blockchain to detect rogue devices on its network.
