Greenfield, Indiana-based Hancock Health experienced a ransomware attack which prompted officials to shut down the entire network. The hacker demanded a bitcoin ransom and attempted to shut down hospital operations by restricting access to certain parts of the system. The attack was sophisticated and not caused by an infected email. Hancock Health is currently working on recovery. Ransomware attacks in the healthcare sector are expected to continue, with hackers increasing the sophistication of their methods.
