A study from cybersecurity vendor Thales has found that 94% of organizations have sensitive data in cloud, big data, internet of things (IoT), blockchain, or mobile environments. However, the rush to adopt these new technologies has created more attack surfaces and increased vulnerability to data breaches. In 2018, 67% of respondents had experienced a breach, compared to 26% in 2017. Despite this, spending on data-at-rest security solutions, which are seen as most effective at preventing breaches, is at the bottom of IT security spending priorities.
