Ransomware attack hits Sri Lanka government, causing data loss • The Register

Sri Lanka’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) is investigating a ransomware attack on the government’s cloud system, affecting roughly 5,000 email accounts. The attack reportedly occurred between May 17 and August 26, compromising backup servers and resulting in severe data loss across government offices. The breach may have been facilitated by phishing schemes and outdated software, the latter due to budget constraints delaying system updates.
