A cyberattack targeting Sri Lanka’s government domain (gov.lk) resulted in the loss of numerous emails from the President’s Office, Cabinet Office, among other state institutions. The hack, identified as a ransomware attack, encrypted emails which prompted a ransom demand to restore access. Data recovery efforts were largely unsuccessful due to outdated and unsafe systems.
