Best Medical Transcription has settled with the New Jersey Attorney General for $200,000 for its role in a data breach that exposed the records of 1,654 Virtua Medical Group patients. The owner of Best Medical Transcription is also barred from owning or managing a business in the state again. The breach occurred in January 2016 when the vendor accidentally uploaded patient files to an open FTP server, which were then indexed by Google.
