UCLA Health System has agreed to pay $7.5m to settle a class-action lawsuit following a 2015 data breach that exposed the records of 4.5 million patients. The settlement includes a $2m fund to help reimburse claimants affected by identity theft and $5.5m for cybersecurity enhancements. The breach saw unencrypted clinical and financial data, including Social Security numbers, accessed by hackers. The UCLA breach remains one of the largest-ever healthcare data breaches in the US.
