Healthcare facilities worldwide, including the UK’s NHS, are at risk of cyberattacks due to weaknesses in cybersecurity measures, according to researchers at Imperial College London. The researchers highlighted the lack of investment in research and cybersecurity, outdated systems, a complex governance structure, and a shortage of skilled cybersecurity specialists as key challenges. They called for prioritised investment in cybersecurity to protect patient safety and the integrity of health systems. The recently launched NHSX unit aims to improve cybersecurity accountabilities and set national strategy and standards.
