Cyber attackers are taking advantage of the Wuhan novel coronavirus outbreak to launch email-based attacks, according to cybersecurity firm Proofpoint. The attacks include campaigns promoting conspiracy theories and convincing users to accept malware by abusing legitimate sources of health information. The malware used in the attacks has expanded to include Emotet, AZORult, AgentTesla, and NanoCore, all of which steal personal information. The attacks are targeting individuals in the US, Japan, Australia, and Italy. Users are warned to exercise caution when dealing with coronavirus-themed emails and websites.
