The Pareto data breach: What has actually been published and why data retention is such an issue

The recent Pareto Phone hack may have leaked confidential data from international and Australian charities, and the hackers also gained access to HR and payroll reports, leave and tax details relating to Pareto staff. The earliest files date back to 2007, raising questions about data retention. Pareto has been proactive in contacting affected charities and a review of Australia’s data protection laws is being undertaken.
