The US Department of Justice has arrested Russian national Ruslan Magomedovich Astamirov for his involvement in the LockBit ransomware group. He is charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and wire fraud related to a computer, with a potential sentence of 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Astamirov allegedly facilitated five ransomware attacks on global victims, including four on behalf of LockBit, using a variety of email accounts and infrastructures. Data and records from technology companies helped link Astamirov to the cybercrimes.
