95% of Data Breaches Tied to Human Error in 2024

Human error, particularly through insider threats and misuse of credentials, caused 95% of 2024 data breaches, says a Mimecast study. Just 8% of employees contributed to 80% of incidents, with insider-driven data leaks costing around $13.9m per organization. Most organizations (95%) use AI for defence, but over half admit they’re unprepared for AI-driven threats. Concerns are growing over collaboration tools, with 79% saying they pose new security threats.
