Health Level Seven International (HL7) is a healthcare interoperability standard that was founded in 1987. It aims to define common standards for structured content of healthcare data and the transport of that data between different systems. HL7 version 2 is a more widely used standard compared to HL7 version 3, which is based on XML and includes both messages and documents.
