70% of Healthcare Data Breaches Caused by Insiders

The 2024 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report reveals a record number of security incidents (30,458) and over double the data breaches from the previous year (10,626). Credential theft accounted for 38% of breaches, followed by phishing (15%) and vulnerability exploitation (14%). Ransomware groups like the Clop group pose a significant threat exploiting unpatched software vulnerabilities. Data extortion increased, pushing victims into paying ransoms due to fear of data publication. The report showed 68% of breaches involved non-malicious human error. In healthcare, 83% of breaches were due to errors, privilege misuse or system intrusions.
