Security experts warn that AI will increasingly be used for cyberattacks, with generative AI tools like large-language model (LLM) already in use to create malware. Predicted threats include nation-states using their own LLM generative AI tools to generate malware, and criminal actors monetizing generative AI. Ransomware threats may increase and automation will likely step up the speed, scale and frequency of attacks. However, working together and using generative AI for threat intelligence, threat simulation, vulnerability testing and improved detection could form part of the defense.
