The US House has passed a reconciliation bill that could significantly reduce federal Medicaid spending and enrollment. The bill includes work requirements for adults and repeals rules simplifying Medicaid enrollment, which are estimated to save $344 billion and $167 billion respectively. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicts the bill would decrease Medicaid spending by $793 billion and reduce the pool of covered people by 10.3 million in 2034. Older adults could be heavily impacted, as they represent 23% of all Medicaid recipients.
