Data breaches in the US decreased by 19% in 2020 with 1,108 cases, affecting far fewer people at 300 million, when compared to the previous year, according to a report by Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC). The report noted that this decrease in data breaches did not mean a decrease in cybercrime. The new trend in cybercrime focuses on less data but high-quality data such as passwords.
