2.9 billion records stolen in Social Security data hack, USDoD claims

Hacking group USDoD claims to have stolen personal records of 2.9 billion people from National Public Data in what is believed to be a massive data breach. The stolen data, which includes Social Security numbers, is being sold on the dark web. Although the Florida-based background check company has not publicly confirmed the breach, it is said to be aware of claims about consumer data and is investigating the issue.
