16 Extensions Infect Over 3.2 Million Users

Cybersecurity investigators have discovered 16 harmful Chrome extensions affecting over 3.2 million users. The extensions can inject code into browsers for ad and search engine optimization fraud. The threat actor reportedly gained access to some extensions from their original developers and began trojanizing them from July 2024. Although Google removed these extensions from the Chrome Web Store following the discovery, users must manually uninstall them.
