11 million patient record breaches make June worst month for information security in 2016

The number of healthcare security attacks has increased with breaches of over 11 million patient records in June, the highest number this year. Most of the breaches were caused by a single hack that affected a large insurer database. The healthcare industry is vulnerable and needs new technologies to protect patient privacy and data. In June, 86% of breaches occurred at healthcare providers, and hacking and insider incidents occurred in equal numbers. The increasing number of business associates with access to patient records creates new security complexities for health systems.
