$10.3 Billion in Cyber Crime Losses Shatters Previous Totals

The FBI’s latest Internet Crime Report reveals over 800,000 cyber crime-related complaints in 2022, amounting to more than $10 billion in losses. The top five cyber crime types were phishing, personal data breach, non-payment/non-delivery, extortion, and tech support. The report also highlighted the rise of business email compromise scams and a notable increase in investment fraud, particularly in crypto-related scams. Losses due to ransomware amounted to over $34.3 million, while illegitimate call centers caused over $1 billion in losses.
