Universities Put Email Users at Cyber Risk

Proofpoint’s Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) analysis reveals that top US universities are falling far short in email protection, leaving them open to fraud and security breaches. The study looked into the country’s premier institutions, and discovered none had Reject procedures in place that could effectively block malicious or suspicious emails. Only two in 20 had a second-tier Quarantine policy in place. The results, in light of the rich personal and financial data held by these centres, left Proofpoint’s cybersecurity strategy executive vice president, Ryan Kalember, “especially concerned”.
