The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (UHSussex) has the third-longest waiting times in the UK, with 55.7% of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment. Despite efforts to improve wait times, demand has increased for both planned and emergency care. NHS England’s new strategy will allow patients who have been waiting over 40 weeks to receive treatment at a different hospital if they can be seen sooner. However, many patients have expressed concerns about the inconvenience and costs associated with travelling.
