The malware, hidden within the code of game modifications, is used to steal from bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets. The malicious software is primarily distributed on GitHub, a code-sharing site. Thousands of users have already fallen victim, with the malware being activated the next time they load the game. Crime experts describe the criminals as “modern-day bank heist guys”, interested solely in financial gain.
