MGMA to ONC: consider cost, complexity of compliance with new interoperability rules

The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) has expressed concerns to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) about proposed interoperability rules. MGMA is worried about the potential costs, administrative burden, and security risks that the rules could place on physician practices. The group agrees with the goal of boosting patient access to health information but wants ONC and CMS to allow physicians some flexibility in ensuring data accessibility and security. Feedback from various industry groups has been submitted as the deadline for comments approaches.
