Group wants HIPAA provisions tweaked

After the final HIPAA Omnibus rule went into effect in September, many groups are urging the Office of the National Coordinator to implement the HIPAA Accounting of Disclosures provision. The ONC’s Privacy and Security Tiger Team is set to convene on December 2nd to discuss recommendations on disclosure accounting. The Tiger Team is suggesting a step-by-step approach to implementing the HITECH requirements and wants to focus on disclosures outside of covered entities initially. The team also wants to pilot software capabilities of disclosure from EHR records.
