Germany Disrupts BADBOX Malware on 30,000 Devices Using Sinkhole Action

Germany’s Federal Office of Information Security (BSI) disrupted a malware operation named BADBOX which had infected at least 30,000 internet-connected devices. The devices were preloaded with malware and included digital frames, media players, streamers, potentially phones and tablets. The BADBOX operation, believed to be operating out of China, also comprised an ad fraud botnet called PEACHPIT. BSI officials severed the communications between the infected devices and their command servers, and have urged consumers to disconnect affected devices.
