Covid inquiry live: Hancock ‘wanted to decide who should live or die if NHS became overwhelmed’

Ex-Health Secretary Matt Hancock felt that he should decide who should live or die if hospitals were overwhelmed with Covid patients, says former NHS CEO Lord Simon Stevens. The inquiry into the UK government’s handling of the pandemic has also seen ex-civil servant Helen MacNamara hit out at a toxic “macho” culture within Boris Johnson’s government, claiming that the female perspective was overlooked. She expressed disappointment that Johnson did not challenge an offensive message written about her by Dominic Cummings.
