Chinese provincial security teams used spyware to collect texts, audio recordings

Chinese provincial security bureaus have been using spyware tool, EagleMsgSpy, to extensively collect data including text, audio recordings, and location data since at least 2017, according to cybersecurity firm Lookout. Developed by Wuhan Chinasoft Token Information Technology, the tool is increasingly powerful, capable of targeting apps like Telegram and WhatsApp. Evidence suggests it is used extensively by law enforcement and may also be able to target Apple devices.
