Can biometrics for patient matching advance interoperability?

Matching medical or personal information with the right patient is not as simple as it sounds. Pew Charitable Trusts’ research suggests that biometrics, such as fingerprinting and facial recognition, could be used as a unique identifier. However, concerns over invasion of privacy and the potential for government tracking exist. Patient matching is crucial for quality care, but mismatches can be costly and hinder coordination. Ben Moscovitch and Rita Torkzadeh will discuss this issue at HIMSS19.
