April sees emergence of new threat groups, and cryptocurrency is king

Healthcare organizations must be more proactive in addressing cybersecurity threats, particularly sophisticated attackers and vulnerabilities in legacy systems, according to the HIMSS Healthcare and Cross-Sector Cybersecurity report. The report also highlights a surge in the use of cryptomining software by cybercriminals in the healthcare industry, while ransomware attacks are declining. The report also warns of the threat posed by the hacking group OrangeWorm, which targets legacy technology and uses Kwampirs malware to perform espionage. Healthcare organizations need to change their culture of cybersecurity and increase budgets to effectively combat these threats.
