AMIA calls for tighter coordination of data privacy rules

The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) has urged the Trump administration to review and potentially update or harmonize the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Common Rule to align with modern privacy policies. The AMIA is specifically asking for an integrated approach to defining policies for the healthcare and consumer sectors. The group wants to advance and protect consumer privacy while encouraging technology innovation. They have suggested areas of focus, including organizational transparency, user control over personal information, and organizational risk management.
