Ben’s mistreatment involved physical restraints, restricted family visits, isolation and belongings removal. A judge approved a settlement which includes a confidential sum of money. The local authority and Health Secretary apologised for his mistreatment. A separate claim by Ben’s mother also resulted in a £10,000 settlement for breaches of her right to family life.
