Security company ESET has discovered the first Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) bootkit, called Bootkitty, built to run on Linux systems. UEFI bootkits allow cyber attackers to control a system from the deepest level because they become operative before the operating system loads. The emergence of the deep-level malware is a concern, despite ESET’s belief it is a mere proof of concept not yet deployed on Linux systems.
