Oklahoma Hospital Says Ransomware Hack Hits 133,000 People

Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Oklahoma suffered a ransomware attack, with hackers potentially accessing personal data of 133,000 patients, one of the largest breaches reported by a regional hospital in 2024. While the hospital quickly restored its IT systems, some data couldn’t be recovered. Cyber threats to smaller, rural hospitals are increasing, and these hospitals often lack resources to prevent and respond to such incidents. Agencies and initiatives are striving to assist, but resource gaps remain a challenge.
