9 Steps to Creating a Drug Diversion Monitoring Program

Drug diversion among healthcare workers is a common problem, with up to 15% of healthcare workers being addicted to drugs. Hospitals need to actively monitor and eradicate drug diversion, where prescription drugs are taken from their intended path. A proactive approach is necessary, including capturing executive support, forming committees, training staff to identify addiction, enabling anonymous reporting, hiring drug diversion specialists, monitoring with behavioral analytics and artificial intelligence, reporting incidents to authorities, offering rehabilitation resources, and continuously improving drug diversion efforts.
